Bloomsburg Downs Rider in Wrestling

BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University wrestling team won the first three bouts over Rider en route to a 26-13 win. The Huskies won six out of ten bouts, including bonus points in three of those wins to get the home win. With the victory, the Huskies improve to 6-4 on the season, while the Broncs drop to 1-2.

125-Eleventh-ranked Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) got the Huskies off to a quick start with a 13-6 win over Rider's Ryan Smith. Sees took a 6-3 lead after the first period, and scored five more points in the final period to get the win.

133-Bloomsburg took a 6-0 lead in the team score as Ricky Donald (Millville/Bloomsburg) got a 3-2 win over Zac Cunliffe. Donald's point on riding time lifted him to the win after Cunliffe tied the match 2-2 with a reversal in the third period.

141-Brad Forbes (Downingtown/Downingtown) got his second pin of the season at the 4:22 mark against Rider's Mike Palma. After a scoreless first period, Forbes selected the defense position and scored two points on a reverse before pinning Palma.

149-Michael Kessler put the Broncs on the board with an 8-2 win over the Huskies' George Hickman (Wilmington, NC/Riverside). Kessler jumped out to a 5-0 lead en route to the win.

157-Ryan Cunningham won a tight 7-6 decision at the 157 bout over Bloomsburg's Aric Fuhrman (Spring Grove/Delone Catholic). Fuhrman cut Cunningham's lead to one with less than 20 seconds remaining, but was unable to get another takedown before the end of the match.

165-Frank Beasley (Oden, IL/Centralia) gave the Huskies a 17-6 lead with a technical fall win over Chris Marold at the 165 bout. Beasley recorded 11 backpoints to get the win for the Huskies.

174-CAA Wrestler of the Week Doug Umbehauer got the Bronc's third win of the night with a 12-1 major decision win over Andrew Jordan (Newark, DE/St. Mark's). Umbehauer's seven points on two takedowns and three backpoints sealed the bout win for Rider.

184-Nate Shirk (Middleburg/Middleburg) recorded the Huskies' second pin of the night, sealing the team win for the Huskies with a pin at the 2:21 mark. Shirk tallied a takedown and six backpoints before pinning Rider's Joe Maroney.

197-Rider's T.J. Morrison got a 4-1 decision win over Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin). After a takedown in the first period, Morrison was able to add an escape and a point for riding time to get the win for the Broncs.

HWT-Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) got an exciting overtime win at the heavyweight bout over the Broncs' Tyler Rees. With the score tied, 1-1 at the end of regulation, Spaid got a takedown in the first overtime period to get the win for Bloomsburg.

The Huskies will travel to Hampton, VA this weekend for the Virginia Duals.
